in case anyone needed further proof that i am *insane*...
So I've started taking the megabus when travelling to Edinburgh, because it is, at most, half the price (prices vary depending on how early you book). So, about a week ago, I'd mentioned to my friend that I might be needing to work from Edinburgh this Friday and could she put me up. We decided it was as good a time as any to plan our September hiking trip and also I could catch up with our group of friends whom I've not seen in months, as well as go climbing with her. As it turned out, I didn't need to work from Edin, but, since I'd made plans, asked if I could anyway. I mean, it wasn't going to cost that much...

So, yeah, I had a hair appt last night and my friends were at a Fringe show, so I booked a late bus. And then spent the entire journey freaking out about whether or not I'd left the grill on. And, the thing is, this isn't a stupid assumption with me, it isn't just one of those paranoia kicks where you spend the day idly wondering if you've left your ghds on. I have left the oven/grill on before. Many times! The only thing is, the longest length of time I'm normally away from said left-on-appliance is a work day. I had no plans to be home for a few days!

So, I arrived too late to really do anything about coming back to Glasgow last night, spent a further hour freaking out at my friends and on the phone with loriel_eris and being calmed enough to realise that, no, it's not likely that my oven will explode if left unattended for the night, but yeah...

So here's me, on less than 4hrs sleep, having spent almost 5x as much on a return train ticket than my bus ticket through here cost me, sitting on the 6:08 train to Milngavie, planning to travel all the way to Partick, check my cooker is switched off, get on a train back to Edinburgh and into work for 8:30 (I'll likely be closer to 9), on a day I didn't have to actually be in Edinburgh in the first place.

Thank God Costa was open from 5pm...

Also, how is this my life!?

Oh, and I'm typing on the BB and the interface is rotten, so I won't be checking this post before I hit 'post' - sorry f formatting or spelling/typos are abundant!

Seriously, it was that or make myself *sick* with worry that it was on. Now I can actually *enjoy* my weekend :)

It wasn't on, was it? That would make the story so much better. ;)
kyizi: fbi angelkyizi on August 26th, 2011 07:43 am (UTC)
Er...well...no. It was off *headdesk*

But! But... my alarm clock, which I did forget to turn off? OMG, waking the *dead*!!!
Apple Slut: supernatural - Misha/SPNroadrunner1896 on August 26th, 2011 07:50 am (UTC)
Hehe. *pets you*

Well, then at least it wasn't entirely pointless to get back. I bet your neighbours are thankful you turned that alarm clock off.

*cackles* love your icon.

Yeah, am pretty sure they're grateful it's off. And at least my mind is at rest...

It is an amazing icon, isn't it? kankonkine made it.

That is also a good thing. Now you can enjoy your weekend. :)
kyizikyizi on August 26th, 2011 09:55 am (UTC)
It is, yes, and totally making me want to catch up already!

Exactly! There's a lot to be said for that :)

I haven't really watched much of the last two seasons either, but when I saw that icon, I knew I needed to have it.

Think I'm ar 6x03... Well, thereabouts

LOL I would probably do this! And when you do something like that it's never still on. I've driven a fair way off and then had to come back and I check everything multiple times before I leave, going from room checking off plugs and switches. And I have to keep the iron plug in view of the front door so it's the last thing I see as I shut it. But if something comes into my head that I haven't physically checked I'll obsess about it until I'm sure it was off. Yup, OCD and a bit nuts on that score :)
kyizikyizi on August 26th, 2011 12:00 pm (UTC)
Lol, so good to know I'm not the only one who does things like this!
Rachelmlleperian on August 26th, 2011 09:49 am (UTC)
If it makes you feel any better, I've done this TWICE in the last 2 months. Last week we were going to the cinema, drove 15 minutes from home then had to turn around to come back and check I'd switched my straighteners off (I had).

The other time was rather more embarassing. Again, going to the cinema, this time drove the whole way into Glasgow before realising I couldn't remember switching the IRON off. Didn't have time to come back, and had already paid for our cinema tickets (it was HP so not missing it). Called my parents to see if they could pop round and check, alas we'd taken the spare key off them after we moved in, so my dad had to drive into town, pick up the keys, drive back to Lennoxtown and check I'd switched it off. Again, I had! I was very grateful to my dad after that.

Oops?
kyizikyizi on August 26th, 2011 04:15 pm (UTC)
Lol, yes, it does make me feel better, thank you! But at least you didn't spend about £25 and it wasn't as far! :)
Rachelmlleperian on August 26th, 2011 04:25 pm (UTC)
That's true! I'm terrible for things like this, quite often I'll leave the house and check I've switched off things I haven't even been using or I'll need to go back and check I've locked my car! It's a nightmare sometimes.
delirium71delirium71 on August 26th, 2011 05:16 pm (UTC)
Sounds familiar. I love that my car now has a remote lock so I can press it again from a distance away to make sure it's locked rather than having to run back to it all the time. Unless that is, I start wondering if I've shut the windows!

When I lock the flat door I have to turn it hard so my finger hurts a bit to remind me when I'm at the bottom of the close that I have locked it!

It is most definitely a nightmare, particularly if you're going away for any length of time.
kyizikyizi on September 26th, 2011 09:19 pm (UTC)
lol, I'd need one of those if i ever got a car.

I'm in London atm for work and you have no idea how many times I checked the oven before I left to come down!!!

Lol!

Yes, this sound like you. Still, at least you got back and even though the grill wasn't on, you could make the neighbours happy. :D

And now you can enjoy the weekend worry-free. :)
kyizikyizi on August 26th, 2011 04:21 pm (UTC)
Yeah, could've done without the money spendage, but I do have peace of mind and that cannot be overrated!
Heliona: double troubleheliona on August 26th, 2011 04:23 pm (UTC)
Yes, peace of mind is priceless. :D

Megabus for the WIN!!! :-D

I've taken the overnight down to Aberdeen before, we were going to put on a gospel dance show. Cheap as chips, it was, about £15 each. And great fun.

Hope you had a nice journey. And good to see I'm not the only one who has blonde moments! :-D

That does sound fun. I do like cheap travel.

And yes, my roots were definitely showing! I do stuff like this all the time...
valoniavalonia on August 26th, 2011 03:27 pm (UTC)
Hehehe, the number of times friends have asked me to break into their boats to turn off appliances... Well, I've lost count!

I always leave the oven on. Always... I also lock myself out a lot too.

Aside from all this adventure, I hope you are well and a very happy and belated birthday to you, my birthday twin - yes, I have only just returned to LJ (again)!
kyizi: deankyizi on August 26th, 2011 04:25 pm (UTC)
Yay, am not alone with the crazy! ;)

Glad to see you back - am a bit hit and miss myself lately :)
Autopsy Gremlinabby_i on August 26th, 2011 03:56 pm (UTC)
This is just what I'd do - I'm totally paranoid about things like this.

It was made worse for me by the fact that once I had thrown something over my GHDs (they weren't on, but were still hot), and once the hob had got knocked on... with the ovengloves left on the top, which smouldered a massive hole in them. Thankfully they didn't catch on fire proper. Now I'm even more paranoid though since I know sometimes I'm right!

It's worth heading back to stop that itch in your brain though. :)

Yeesh, that does not sound fun! I would so be freaking out about it all the time if I'd done that, too!
